March/April 2023 Update

The third non-statutory public consultation will run from the 5th of April until the 3rd of May and will focus on the Emerging Preferred Route Corridor Option. The emerging preferred route corridor has been identified from the 4 options displayed at the second non-statutory public consultation. The emerging preferred route corridor has emerged as the most preferable option based on the outcome of a Multi Criteria Analysis undertaken by ROD-A in accordance with TII’s Project Appraisal Process. We would like to thank everyone who has engaged in the process to date, your feedback has been helpful in the development of the scheme to date. You are now invited to give feedback on the emerging preferred route corridor option which will be considered by the design team.

December 2022 Update

In January 2022 Roughan & O’Donovan-AECOM (ROD-A) Consulting Engineers were appointed by Donegal County Council (DCC), in conjunction with Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) to progress this project from Concept Stage, to consideration of Options, selection of a Preferred Solution and finally Detailed Design.

During 2022, two public consultations were held, detailing the project objectives and constraints, and the development of 22 options which were then refined down to 4 options. The project team is currently in the process of preparing the Stage 2 Option Appraisal in accordance with TII’s Project Appraisal Process, with a view to selecting an Emerging Preferred Option in the early 2023.

Once this work is complete a third Public Consultation event will be undertaken to inform the public and stakeholders about the Emerging Preferred Option. This will likely be in the first quarter of 2023.

October 2022 Update

The second N13 Public Consultation, which was held from 6 September to 4 October 2022, has now closed. The Consultation provided a high-level overview of the Options developed during the first part of 2022, which are designed to deliver the objectives of the scheme.

We would like to thank everyone who visited the Public Exhibition either in person or via the website, and especially those who made a submission in relation to the Stage 1 Corridor Options. We are now reviewing those submissions and will consider the points raised during the next phase of the scheme development.

We are now commencing the next phase, (Stage 2 of TII’s Project Appraisal Guidelines), which involves a detailed appraisal of the identified Options which were displayed at the Consultation. Once this appraisal work is complete, Public Consultation 3 will then be held to inform everyone as to the outcome of that Appraisal Process and the Emerging Preferred Option. Public Consultation 3 is likely to take place during the first quarter of 2023.

September 2022 Update

The second Public Consultation outlining the improvement options developed following the Constraints Study Public Consultation held in March-April 2022 is due to be held from 6 September – 4 October 2022. An exhibition will be held at An Grianán Hotel on the 6th of September from 10am to 8pm. All consultation material will also be available online on this website from the 6th of September. See Public Consultation Tab.

The options under consideration include looking at the Do-Nothing option (i.e. maintain existing road layout) and both on-line improvements and off-line (bypass) options.

At this stage, the public and stakeholders are being invited to offer their views on the options under consideration prior to proceeding to a detailed option assessment using a Project Appraisal Matrix.

August 2022 Update

Submissions provided following the First Public Consultation on the 30th March have been taken into consideration and the Stage 1 Corridor Options have been developed. 

We are now finalising our assessment of these Stage 1 Corridor Options to identify which options will be brought forward to the more detailed Stage 2 Project Appraisal Matrix. The options developed include a Do-Nothing option (i.e., maintain existing road layout), an on-line improvement option and off-line (bypass) options.

A Second Public Consultation will be held in early September this year to inform everyone as to the outcome of that Stage 1 Preliminary Option Assessment and present those options that have been selected to proceed to the more detailed Stage 2 Project Appraisal Matrix.

May 2022 Update

The First Public Consultation response period for the project has closed on the 28th April 2022.

March 2022 Update

The Constraints Study Public Consultation is to be held at the An Grianán Hotel on the 30th March from 10am to 8pm. All consultation material will also be available online on this website from the 30th March. See Public Consultation Tab.

At this stage the public and stakeholders are being invited to offer their views on the need for the scheme, their thoughts and ideas on what improvements should be considered and to provide local knowledge to assist in the development of potential future options.

February 2022 Update

During Spring 2022 ROD-A are identifying the various constraints within the study area (covering the environs of Bridgend), which need to be considered by any proposed improvement scheme. This includes environmental issues, safety, local development needs, pedestrian and cyclists needs and co-ordination with the A2 Buncrana Road project being developed by the Department for Infrastructure in Northern Ireland.

Following the completion of the Constraints Assessment, a Public Consultation event will be held to inform the public and key stakeholders of the constraints identified and to obtain feedback and local knowledge prior to the next stage (consideration of potential improvement options).
